How fast should your Shopify store load?
Page speed isn’t a vanity metric — it’s one of the most direct levers on revenue most stores ignore. Here’s the target to aim for and how to hit it.
The target: under 2.5 seconds
The metric that matters most is Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) — how long until the main content of your page is visible. Google’s threshold for “good” is under 2.5 seconds on mobile. Many stores sit at 4–8 seconds, especially on phones, which is where most ecommerce traffic now is.
If you don’t know your number, run the free page speed test — it measures your real load time and shows what it’s costing you.
Why speed costs you twice
A slow store loses money in two compounding ways:
- Fewer conversions. Studies from Deloitte, Akamai and Google consistently show conversions fall as load time rises — often around 7% per extra second. People abandon before the page even renders.
- Less traffic. Site speed (Core Web Vitals) is a Google ranking factor. Slow stores rank lower, so you get fewer visitors to begin with — then convert fewer of them.
That’s why fixing speed is rarely “just a tech thing.” It lifts both halves of the equation.
The fastest wins
Most speed problems come from a handful of culprits, and you can fix the biggest ones without a developer:
- Compress and resize images, and serve modern formats (WebP). Oversized images are the #1 cause of slow Shopify stores.
- Lazy-load anything below the fold so it doesn’t block the first paint.
- Audit your apps — uninstall any you don’t actively use. Each injects scripts that slow every page.
- Cut homepage sliders/carousels — heavy, and they rarely convert.
- Trim third-party scripts (chat, popups, extra trackers) to the few that earn their weight.
- Limit custom fonts to one or two weights.
Start with images and unused apps — they’re usually the difference between “slow” and “fine.”
The bigger picture
Speed is one place your store leaks revenue, but rarely the only one. Conversion rate, checkout friction and AI visibility cost you too. Revyfix measures them all in one audit and tells you which fix pays back fastest.
